We’re Doing School At Home!

Hi everyone!

This week’s post is coming a bit early because I wanted you to have some recommendations for preparing your home for your kiddos to have school there over the next few weeks.

Watch the video and see the notes below!

Happy schooling!

Organizing Your Time

  1. Don’t change morning and bedtime routines too much. Keeping consistency in those routines will be important for continuity when they return to school.

  2. Set (and stick to) a schedule. Post it in a shared space (or in each private space), use it to set expectations and goals for your kiddos, and make sure it is clearly communicated at the beginning of each day. Also, you may want to allow older students to set their own schedule, but be sure it is in writing.

  3. Pre-pack lunches and snacks. This will make it easier to adhere to scheduled lunch and break/snack times. It will also KEEP FOOD IN YOUR HOUSE! 😉

Organizing Your Space

  1. Clear at least 1 space completely from clutter and distractions. Remove decor from tables, try to create a quiet space, and bring all needed school supplies to this area each morning.

  2. Set aside specific areas. No matter how big or small your space - this is possible!

    • Create dedicated spaces for different subjects/tasks. For example: Reading Nook, Math Station, Creativity Corner (Art supplies, Music, etc…), Screens Station (tablets, phones, etc… space to complete online work or academic games/websites)

    • Break Area: Allow an area specifically for taking a mental break from work. Best if separate from whatever room “school” is taking place.

  3. Have fun, whenever possible!

    • Outdoor learning

    • Cooking together (teaching measurement and time)

    • Movie day, or themed party day (may be a great idea for Friday’s- celebrating hard work all week)

You’ve got this!
